You’ve heard the phrase “Cruisin for a Bruisin”? Well, Melissa and I are “Losin’ for a Cruisin”.
A couple of weeks ago I casually mentioned to Melissa via email that I want to take a cruise one day because I haven’t done that yet. Melissa and I both are divorced and waiting for God to send us each a mate, and taking a cruise was something I had been “saving” to take with my future husband. In my mind, I thought how nice it would be to sit poolside, listening to the lapping waves and screeching seagulls as we sail towards some far off adventurous land.
But as I’m getting older and realizing that God may or may not send me a mate, I’ve decided to not “save” these things that I want to do…and taking a cruise was one of those things.
James 4: 13-14
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Well, next thing ya know Melissa has sent me a link to a cruise that she has been watching for years!! And guess what? It’s the lowest price that she’s ever seen it being offered! So what do we do?? Yeah, we book ourselves a cruise!!! We couldn’t resist!
We decided to use this cruise as motivation to lose our weight. It’s our “Weight Loss Reward Goal”. Yes, we have short term goals as well, such as being able to easily slip into that super cute pair of jeans that we bought because they were on sale but we KNEW was too small, yet still hoping that “one day” we could fit into them. You know you’ve done that too! Admit it! LOL
Our cruise is April 2018 so that will be just over a year after Melissa began her weight loss journey and about 11 months after I began mine. Here’s our itinerary:
And of course, we are planning on going on an excursion each day.
Costa Maya, Mexico Excursion
Neither Melissa nor I have every scuba dived, but we sure will be trying it out on this trip! They have an excursion for non-certified divers and give you a lesson right there on the spot! One of the reasons that I’ve never tried to scuba dive is because I sure wasn’t going to stuff this fat body into one of those tight-fitting, bulge-showing, non-forgiving wetsuits!! No way! But now…I’m so confident that this weight/fat/blubber will be gone by the time of the cruise, I’ve committed to doing this!
Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan Excursion
Both Melissa and I are animal lovers so we decided to take a tour of Gumbalimba Park. There will be parrots, macaws and howler monkeys! Oh my!! We will get to explore Coxen’s Cave and then have time to swim in the Caribbean before heading back on board the ship. Such fun!
Can you say Mayan Ruins?? Seeing the Xunantunich, which is an ancient Mayan archaeological site in western Belize, is one of the main reasons we chose this particular cruise. Melissa especially is a history buff and LOVES this kind of stuff. According to Wikipedia, Xunantunich’s name means “Stone Woman” in the Maya language (Mopan and Yucatec combination name), and, like many names given to Maya archaeological sites, is a modern name; the ancient name is currently unknown. The “Stone Woman” refers to the ghost of a woman claimed by several people to inhabit the site, beginning in 1892. She is dressed completely in white, and has fire-red glowing eyes. She generally appears in front of “El Castillo”, ascends the stone stairs, and disappears into a stone wall. We CANNOT wait to see this!
This excursion takes us to Rio Secreto Natural Reserve which is a series of caverns connected by underground waterways. We will be hiking and swimming along an underground river with stalactites & stalagmites.
Yucatan (Progreso), Mexico Excursion
THIS is the reason we chose to go on this cruise. We will be taking a tour of Chichen Itza, one of the most important archeological sites on the American continent and once home of the great Mayan Empire.
Whew! I’m tired and excited just thinking about this trip! But honestly, I’m even more excited about the idea of losing all of my weight and BEING ABLE to do these things. At my current weight, there’s no way I would be able to physically handle all of the walking, climbing, swimming, etc. that will be required. I don’t want my weight to hold me back from doing the things that I dream of doing. Melissa wrote a blog post about Finding the “Or”. This is one of my “Or’s”. I will no longer let my weight hinder my ability and desire to live the life that God has planned for me!
